Xteriorscapes bags Best Design of the Year

We are still on a high after our exceptional Akaroa project picked up Best Design of the Year, at the Landscaping New Zealand  “Landscapes of Distinction” Awards recently.

A bit about our design:

Our winning design is a residential holiday home (new build), on the waterfront of Akaroa Harbour. It is surrounded by holiday homes and baches of varying age and size and its northern boundary is formed by an historic sea wall. These stunning views and maritime character really inspired the gardens design. We wanted to create a cosy outdoor living area with expansive surrounds. To achieve this we drew upon the stunning coastal views and character of Akaroa Harbour. Our design pulls the harbour into the property, using boulders against the sea wall, coastal planting and recycled jetty materials. A sunken courtyard and framed views provide some privacy for our clients while further connecting them to Akaroa Harbour.

Here’s what the judges had to say:

"The judges all felt instantly at home and wanted to linger at this stunning property, that despite its unpretentious manner, oozed class and subtle detail. The rich use of gritty, weathered, natural textures sat in perfect juxtaposition to carefully detailed and beautifully finished contemporary materials. The plant selection created a lush but low maintenance garden well suited to a seaside retreat. The sea-wall 'rock garden' was a stroke of genius that created a seamless transition to the shore below, while maintaining the expansive harbour views. The fireplace nestled under its concrete enclosure forms a focal point with significant presence and a sculptural quality that no doubt draws everyone outside at the end of the day for those fortunate enough to be spending a night or two"

A huge thank you to our clients for making this possible, and to Avenue Homes for their excellent attention to detail during construction.
